Grand opening concert

What a wonderful time was had by all as the Kimichi Symphony Orchestra officially opened the doors to interested familes and the wider community. Dvorak's 9th Symphony hummed along at a brisk pace, and the team invovled were delighted to chat to members of the public. A wander round the new school was absolutely in order, and a great day was had by all. We were delighted to have such a full hall, and can't wait to be back to perform again.

Dvorak 9

Who could help but smile, when you're playing such fabulous music?

If you came along and enjoyed that, then Kimichi Symphony Orchestra returns to Symphony Hall with a bold, big-screen programme: a Richard Strauss Spectacular built around three masterpieces, Till Eulenspiegel, Death and Transfiguration, and Ein Heldenleben, music that crackles with character, colour and sheer orchestral thrill.
But this isn’t “just” Strauss. Two of the works will be re-imagined through a cultural-fusion collaboration with Sujata Banerjee Dance Company, presenting original choreography that places North Indian classical dance in dialogue with late-Romantic symphonic storytelling. Kathak is a form that fuses rhythm, virtuosity and narrative—famous for its intricate footwork, rapid spins, expressive gesture and storytelling shaped by complex rhythmic cycles. Sujata Banerjee Dance Company’s Kathak dancers will bring an electrifying, rhythm-driven narrative to Till Eulenspiegel and luminous, spiritually-charged physicality to Tod und Verklärung, sharpening every musical turn into something you can see as well as hear.
Under the baton of Keith Slade, KSO has built a reputation for ambition and artistry, praised for a “warmer, more rounded sound” and hailed as a “precious jewel in the Midlands music crown” in a 5-star review of the orchestra’s Stravinsky/Diaghilev ballets. Another recent review singled out Slade’s control of large forces, “in complete command”—and the orchestra’s “precision and subtlety.”
With a 4pm start time, you're perfectly placed for lunch in town and still back home before bedtime!
